10 Beauty Tips to Make You Look Pretty Every Day
Getting enough sleep is imperative to looking your best during the day. Adequate sleep gives our body and cells time to repair and regenerate, which is why sleep is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance.
Lack of sleep can lead to premature aging, dark circles and redness in our face, in addition to stunting hair and nail growth. Sleep deprivation will also lead to you feeling moody, irritable and unmotivated so not only will you not look your best on the outside, you will also not be able to put your best self forward when it comes to the qualities that come from within.
LOOK AFTER YOUR SKIN
Build a skincare routine that works for your skin type and lifestyle. If you don’t have a lot of time to spend on your beauty regime then there is nothing wrong with keeping things simple.
The important steps are to make sure to cleanse your skin daily, remove makeup at night, moisturize in the morning and evening and make sure to wear SPF when outside (even in winter).
LOOK AFTER YOUR TEETH
People who aren’t afraid to show off their confidence with a self-assured smile are always more alluring to others. A bright smile shows that a person is happy and feels positive in their own skin.
So look after your teeth by making sure to brush in the morning and evening, and after every meal if you can. Use mouthwash throughout the day to keep your breath fresh and consider using whitening strips or having your teeth whitened professionally if you suffer with stains.
Exfoliating keeps our skin looking bright, clear and soft. As well as gently exfoliating your face when you are doing your daily cleansing routine, it’s important to exfoliate the skin on the rest of our body too.
Use a loofah or pumice stone in the shower every day to exfoliate your body to remove dry and dead skin cells, and make sure you’re not allowing a build-up of products on your skin such as deodorants, perfumes and moisturizers which can cause bad smells, dryness and premature ageing.
You’ll hear this in every list of ‘beauty tips’ and that’s because it is true! There is no better way to nurture yourself than by drinking plenty of water. Eight glasses a day is the recommended minimum but if you’re not a fan of water then just start with one or two and build up over time.
Drinking water keeps our hair, skin and nails hydrated, boosts brightness and shine in our skin and hair, flushes the body of waste and toxins, helps the body in dissolving and digesting essential nutrients and minerals and can aid weight loss.
Water can also have immense benefits in some of the more serious areas of health such as lubricating joints, therefore, preventing conditions such as Arthritis and Osteoporosis, reducing stroke risk by delivering oxygen to the brain, regulating body temperature which improves performance during exercise, thinning the blood to regulate blood pressure and keeping healthy kidneys.
DON’T OVERDO YOUR MAKEUP
Less is more. Find a daily makeup routine that works for your style and complexion. The key when it comes to makeup is to hide blemishes and accentuate your best features. So don’t feel the need to complicate things by wearing heavy eyeshadow or lipstick on a daily basis.
Stick to a simple foundation or CC cream, perhaps some light brow makeup and finish off with some mascara and you should be good to go. For my must-have beauty products for creating natural beauty check out The 9 Essential Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without.
Adding a spot of subtle perfume is a great way to improve your confidence by making you feel more put together without it seeming like you have tried too hard. Choose a scent that fits the occasion and even the time of year. Fruity and floral scents are perfect for spring/summer while spicy, musky scents fit the winter season more appropriately.
Smelling great will give you a confidence boost and it’s a proven fact that others are drawn to those who have a welcoming, signature scent. Don’t over-apply though – you don’t want it to be overpowering. Just a little behind your ears and wrists should do the trick.
ADD SOME VOLUME TO YOUR HAIR
Use a volumizing spray or powder at the roots of your hair to give yourself that effortless but stylish bed-head look that is so appealing. You could even consider using dry shampoo for this purpose, which will freshen up oily hair and add volume.
MOISTURIZE YOUR LIPS
Chapped lips are painful as well as unappealing. I used to suffer from chapped lips really badly as a child and no matter how much chapstick I applied it never seemed to heal. I remember I would always feel embarrassed by my crusty lips during winter and it had a massive impact on my confidence. In primary school I used to get picked on, one boy used to tell me I looked like I had been kissing a cows bottom – yikes!
Eventually, I found that the best remedy for severely chapped lips was E45 cream which I applied very generously every night.
Whether you suffer from slight dryness on your lips or severe chapping during the winter like myself, keep a suitable product on hand at all times to make sure that you can keep your lips looking moisturized and healthy all year round.
The number one way to show off your natural beauty and look your best is to exude confidence. If you are confident in your own skin, it won’t matter to you what anybody else has to say about your lifestyle.
So be confident in who you are, remind yourself that the negative opinions of others say much more about them than it does you. If you are not a naturally confident person then try some of the ideas listed above to give you a bit of a boost and then if you still need some extra push, then ‘fake it till you make it’.
To a certain extent, I believe that you can train yourself to be a confident person. Just put on a show and pretend to others that you are naturally confident and eventually your self-love will grow.
If you allow yourself to always focus and think about the things you don’t like about yourself then those feelings of low self esteem will just grow and manifest even more. If you try to find even one thing that you like about yourself (whether its about the way you look or who you are as a person) and focus your energy on that positive thing, then your confidence will grow and over time you will begin to see the other great qualities that you have to offer.
Activities that will help improve your sense of confidence could be doing something completely out of your comfort zone, wearing a completely new outfit that gives you a brand new look, accomplishing a goal that you have been working on for some time, or just taking a moment to sit back and reflect on your past successes.
