If you suffer with acne, dry skin or any other skin related problems, then you will be delighted to hear that it is entirely possible to solve many of these issues just by changing the food that you eat!

Providing our bodies with the right vitamins and minerals to stay looking our best is an essential part of self-care that many people neglect.  So today I am here to tell you the top seven foods for clearer skin which you can start incorporating into your diet and heading on your way to having the clearest, brightest and most glowing skin in town!

7 Foods For Clear Skin That You Need to be Eating!

If you suffer from acne or clogged pores then nothing will help to clear your body of toxins more than drinking plenty of water.  Aim for eight half pint glasses a day, or two litres which is four average-sized portable water bottles. Drinking your water will flush any nasties from your body, improve hydration and cleanse your pores.

The citrus and Vitamin C content found naturally within lemons is famous for clearing the body of impurities, reducing redness and healing acne scars.  For optimal benefits, try to include the peel in your diet by grating into your dinner recipes or smoothies. Alternatively, you can add lemon juice to your water, salad or pasta dishes.

Salmon is a powerful source of Omega 3 fatty acids which aid the body in collagen production and help the body to produce new cells.  Exfoliate daily to clear the skin of impurities and dead cells, and try to eat salmon a minimum of three times a week, in order to promote new cell production.

Blueberries are considered the most nutrient-dense berry there is and they’re bursting with vitamin C and antioxidants.  Antioxidants will cleanse the body of impurities which can lead to spots and blackheads, as well as reducing blotchiness, redness and puffiness.

Tomatoes contain a number of carotenoids such as alpha-beta carotene, lutein and lycopene. Carotenoids are naturally occurring pigments which give many fruits and vegetables their red, orange and yellow colouring.  Carotenoids contain many antioxidant properties which help close pores and protects the skin from UV-A damage.

Additionally, as strange as it may sound, using the pulp on tomatoes as a natural face mask will reduce redness, puffiness and acne.  Try applying for ten minutes, and then notice the immediate difference once you have washed off!

The antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals naturally found in leafy greens such as kale, spinach and green chard, will even out your skin tone, reduce redness and purify the body of toxins that can lead to acne.  Vitamin C and calcium found within the vegetables will also promote collagen production which is important for healing scarring and dark spots which may be still lingering as a result of acne that has since cleared up.

Turmeric is famous for its antibacterial benefits, which can clear the skin of impurities that lead to spots and blackheads.  Turmeric also has extremely powerful anti-inflammatory properties which act in reducing redness and flare-ups in the body. Turmeric is a super versatile spice and can be used in teas, smoothies,  stir-fry’s or sprinkled into any rice dish to give a boost of colour and flavour.

If you want to take things a step further then try making your own paste of aloe vera gel and turmeric, and then applying to the affected area to clear up spots, redness and swelling naturally.
