With 2020 just around the corner, I always like to set myself some goals for the year ahead so that I can be confident that I will have some real focus points to work on in the coming year.
I hate the term ‘New Year Resolutions’ because generally resolutions are very floppy, and aren’t as specific as proper goals. I like to make sure the goals I set are specific, measurable and have a time in mind for when I want to have made them happen.
Today I wanted to share with you my goals for 2020. I think this is an opportunity for me to get a bit more personal with my readers, as most of the posts I have written so far haven’t been so personal.
Hopefully, this will inspire you and give you some ideas if you are not sure what you want to focus on in the next 12 months.
My 2020 Goals
GO SWIMMING TWICE A WEEK
I used to be a regular swimmer but this year I have really let my fitness slip. I am not a gym girl – and I don’t particularly want to be a gym girl. I find swimming is much more relaxing and therapeutic on my mind, whilst also being a great way to keep fit.
LEARN TO CROCHET
This was on my list last year and I haven’t so much as picked up a crochet needle all year. However, it’s not because I’ve lost interest, I just had a super busy year with travelling, work and starting this blog. So in 2020 I am reinstating this goal and I’m going to make a massive effort to set aside time to practice my crochet skills.
I have always been a super creative person and I would love nothing more than to be able to make my own blankets, clothing and other items that I can also give as gifts to people. Stay tuned for some DIY tutorials if I really get the hang of it!
GROW MY BLOG
My number one focus (work wise) for 2020 will be to grow The Angelina Archives. This blog started as a passion project, and a way for me to share with other savers, ways that we’re saving money for our first house.
However, very quickly I found a real passion for writing, web design and social media and I have been working on this blog behind the scenes more hours than I spend at my full time office job!
In 2020 I have many plans for new content and ways that I can really grow my audience. I would be over the moon if I can make blogging my full time job at some stage so I will be spending the next 12 months diving head first into the world of blogging and hopefully growing my audience substantially.
TRAVEL TO TWO NEW COUNTRIES
I love travelling, seeing new cities, and learning about different cultures. I am lucky that my boyfriend Tom and I have that in common, so in 2020 I would love the chance to travel to two new countries with him and add to the list of places that we have visited together.
MOVE TO A NEW HOME
We have been living in a one bedroom flat for nearly two years, and we are running out of space. As we are saving to buy a home, we wanted to keep our expenses as low as possible, so have stayed in the flat for much longer than we would have otherwise.
However we have decided mutually that the extra money we will spend on rent to move to a two bedroom house will vastly improve our quality of life, and will also give us the space for an office where we can then work on our at home businesses and earn more money.
GET A DOG
With moving to a new home, we also plan to welcome a furry friend into our little family. Tom and I are both huge animal lovers and wanted nothing more than to get a dog for as long as we have been together (nearly three years).
As soon as we move house, we plan to head straight down to the animal shelter and give a wonderful dog a forever home.
EAT LESS TAKEAWAYS
Takeaways are the number one area that we spend way too much money on. We managed to cut down massively back in the summertime, but since we have been so busy in the last few months, we have got super lazy.
For health and financial reasons, we are going to aim for no more than one takeaway per month as a special treat, and no more trips to the bakery at the weekend!
HAVE A WEEKLY DATE NIGHT
Tom and I both have full time office jobs, plus evening/weekend jobs and we spend a lot of our ‘free time’ working on projects from home such as blogging, YouTube and more.
With all this going on, we don’t find it easy to spend quality time together or go out on dates as much as we’d like.
However, in 2020 we are going to make an effort to have a date night every week, whether that’s a trip to the cinema, a walk around the lake in our hometown, or just a movie night on the sofa!
SAVE MONEY FOR A HOUSE
This has been an ongoing goal for a number of years, but buying a house in the UK is no easy feat. We also live in a pretty expensive area of the UK and don’t want to move away as we both grew up here and have most of our family in town.
We’re making great progress with saving for a deposit so throughout 2020 we will continue to save really hard and hopefully in the next year or two, we will finally have saved the money we need to put down that deposit!
TAKE MORNING WALKS
Back to the fitness. I am going to take a 20-30 minute walk each morning as another way to keep fit, and to also give myself some solitary time in the mornings to start my day with fresh air and time to think without any distractions.
I will use this time to enjoy some silence before the craziness of the day ahead clouds my mind. I already get up super early to write for this blog, so I am going to aim for a 5.30am wake up time, to allow for the extra time I need for my walk.
WRITE AN EBOOK
I would absolutely love to write an eBook. I have a couple of topics in mind, I just need to choose which is going to be my first project. I think I have some pretty interesting stories to share that will be helpful to other people so my main background project for 2020 will be to write and publish my very first eBook.
I am going to keep the details quiet for now. As I say, I haven’t made a decision yet on which idea I am going to go for as my first book, but stay tuned for news and updates throughout the next 12 months!
COMPLETE THE IMDB CLASSIC MOVIES LIST
I am one of those people who hasn’t seen a single classic movie in their life. People ask me all the time, “have you seen X, Y, Z”, and when I answer “no” they look at me in horror. I didn’t even see Grease for the first time until about a year ago – I’m 26 years old… (please don’t click off now haha).
It’s not that I don’t enjoy a good film – I just never think to sit down and watch a film in my free time. I have always been more of a TV series kinda gal.
I have found a list of ‘Movies That You Have To See In Your Life‘ and in 2020 I plan to check off as many of these as I can.
READ 12 BOOKS
Last but not least, I have a list of 12 books that I want to read in 2020. I set this goal for 2019 but only managed about 6. I think this time, rather than reading books, I am going to try Audible and listen to the books instead.
I am obsessed with podcasts and I think I will find it much easier to listen to books if I can do so while I am travelling and doing housework etc.
Most of the books on my list are business related or personal growth books, so perhaps once I read them all, I will do a blog post letting you all know what I thought.
I think that reading or listening to business related content when you are trying to build something for yourself, is the number one way to stay motivated and learn new skills and strategies to keep you on track.
The books I did manage to read this year included The Secret, Rich Dad Poor Dad and The Universe Has Your Back to name a few. Even just these few titles where enough to keep me motivated and inspired enough to start this blog – something I have spent years toying with the idea.
