There aren’t many things I like learning about more than a new side hustle idea.

The thought of earning extra money from home is so exciting and even more so when you don’t need much more than a laptop and a few hours of spare time in the evening. A side hustle can be an amazing way to boost your income and reach your financial goals that little bit faster.

Whether you use the money to pay off debts, save towards a new home or car, or invest for your retirement fund, there aren’t many people who would say “no” to a little extra money.

That’s why today I will be sharing with you ten side hustle ideas, which can all be done from the comfort of your own home – perhaps even in bed if that suits you!

I have tried most of these myself, and some have made me well over £500 in one month before.  If you find that you really enjoy any of these, then you might even be able to turn it into a full time business!

Amazon FBA has to be first on my list, as this is something I have recently learned about and I am truly amazed at the earning potential that this side business offers.

In a nutshell, FBA stands for Fulfillment By Amazon. What this means is that you as a seller, source a product, and ship it in bulk to an Amazon warehouse, where they then take care of all the distribution and shipping involved when a customer buys said product.  For this service, they take a commission, but you as the seller can still earn a pretty decent income.

I got started with FBA by sourcing used books from charity shops, thrift stores and Facebook marketplace.  I scan the barcode of the book using the FBA app, see what the current selling price for that product is, and what my end profit will be once I have paid any fees that Amazon will take. All of this information is easily visible in the app when you scan the barcode, so you can see if there is a profit to be made from an item before you buy it.

Books aren’t the only thing you can sell, there are people selling games, toys, groceries, DVD’s and so much more with Amazon.  I will be doing a full blog post on how I make money from home with Amazon FBA, however, in the meantime, I highly recommend Christos Fellas YouTube channel – he has a tonne of videos with everything you need to know to get started, and this is how I learned everything I know about Amazon FBA so far!

Similarly, selling on eBay is a great way to make some extra money online by selling new and used products.  eBay is a double threat in that its also an opportunity to shift anything in your home that you no longer love or use, and offer it to a new home where somebody will value it much more than you do.

I regularly make £500+ per month selling clothes, books, electronics, games and homeware on eBay.  For selling tips to maximize your earnings, check out my post on How to Sell on Depop & eBay.

In the same way as eBay, selling clothes on Depop is an amazing way to pull in extra cash.  If you haven’t heard of Depop, it’s a very Instagram style reselling app most popular for selling clothes, shoes and accessories – particularly vintage pieces.

I find that Depop is better for selling items at a higher price but sometimes it might take a little longer for an item to sell.   If you are looking to shift stock faster, then eBay is probably your best bet but you might get a lower price.

Blogging is a fantastic way to earn extra money from home, while also having an opportunity to share your experiences, ideas and opinions with the whole world if you wish.  Blogging has been consistently on the rise since the early 2000’s and it’s no surprise as to why.

Starting a blog gives you a space to share your thoughts all sorts of topics (fashion, food, photography, art, health, fitness, business, the list goes on…) and unlike posting on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media platform, it gives you a space online that is completely your own, that nobody can take away from you.

Earning money from blogging is a slow burner.  You need to genuinely enjoy writing and engaging with your readers, and it will take at least 6-12 months of consistent posting and sharing your blog before you see any significant amount of money coming in.

However, if you commit yourself, you could comfortably turn blogging into a full time business within a couple of years.  Bloggers earn money in a number of different ways, however, the most common income streams include advertising income, affiliate marketing, sponsorships and selling original products on your website.

You probably already know that you can use cashback websites to earn money back on your online purchases, however, if you’re anything like I was, you’re probably thinking it sounds like more trouble than it’s worth.

However, you can earn a pretty decent sum of money over the space of a year with minimal effort using services like TopCashback.

TopCashback has over 5000 retailers offering money back on purchases and all you have to do is create an account, find a retailer that you wish to purchase from, click on the merchant’s website through TopCashback and then shop as normal. Cashback is paid as a percentage of what you spend – usually between 2%-10%, but sometimes more. The cashback will be available to withdraw within 6-8 weeks but sometimes it takes a little longer.

When I first started using the site, I made £70 in cashback in just a few weeks. There are even ‘free cashback’ offers on the website where no purchase is necessary, you just need to sign up for different ‘free trials’ and remember to cancel before the end of the trial if you don’t wish to continue with the service.

Working from home as a Virtual Assistant is an amazing way to supplement your income if you are also trying to grow your own business, you’re a stay at home parent, or you just want to boost your monthly earnings on top of your full time day job.

As a Virtual Assistant, you can work from home on administrative tasks, invoicing, accounts, marketing, design, consultancy and so much more.  You might work for a big corporation, or an entrepreneur similar to yourself who is just looking to outsource some of the more mundane tasks that are part of their business.

Working as a virtual assistant means that you receive all your work via email, phone call, video call and through other online platforms, plus you can choose the hours you want to work and how much to charge for your time.

Fiverr and Upwork are two great examples of online platforms where you can offer your services in the form of freelance work in any skills you may hold.  You can advertise yourself as a graphic designer, proofreader, writer, illustrator, video editor, social media professional and so much more.

You can create a profile detailing the skills and experience that you have and choose your hourly rate or flat fee that you wish to charge for your services.  Businesses and individuals can then easily search the platform for professionals with the skills that they are looking for, and Fiverr will display the most relevant individuals where they can then get in contact with you to make arrangements.

Swagbucks rewards you points called ‘SB’ for completing tasks such as answering surveys, polls, watching videos, playing games, searching the web and more. Swagbucks can be redeemed for either cash or gift cards, however, you get more bang for your buck if you choose a gift card. You can currently trade 1,440 SB for a £10 Amazon gift card and it’s easy enough to earn those first 1,440 SB with the multiple offers they currently have for new signups.

Matched Betting is a ‘cheat the system‘ kind of way to make money online, by utilising ‘free bet’ offers from bookmakers who are trying to draw in new customers.

As a new customer, bookmakers such as Ladbrooks will offer you ‘free bets’ if you spend a certain amount of money in order to encourage you to place more bets with them – which makes them more money in the long term.

To ensure you don’t lose money when you lay your ‘free bet’, you need to match your bets at a betting exchange such as Betfair – this is called a lay bet.

A lay bet means that you are betting on an outcome not happening.  So now if you place a bet on Tottenham winning their next game with a bookmaker, you will also place a lay bet on Tottenham losing their next game at a betting exchange.

Now, regardless of the outcome of Tottenham’s next football game, you are not going to lose any money.  Using a tool called Profit Accumulator, you can calculate exactly how much money you need to bet with the bookmaker and the betting exchange in order to come out profitable.

This is a risk free way to earn money through betting.  There is a lot to understand before you get started, but if you can get the hang of it, then this is a great way to make a couple of hundred pounds a month from only a couple of hours ‘work’ each week.

I will be doing a much more in-depth post on my experience with Matched Betting, and how exactly you make money this way, but until then, check out the Profit Accumulator website for more information.

Please note, Matched Betting is only available in the UK.

If you are a well skilled craftsperson, then why not make some beautiful things by hand and set up your own Etsy store?  There are so many people doing this at the moment who’s shops are becoming so profitable that they are able to leave their day jobs and do what they love full time.

Etsy is an online platform where creative people can sell things that they have made for people who are looking for unique, personalised products.

Some of the most popular items sold on Etsy are bespoke jewellery, clothing, homewares, printable wall art, greetings cards and more.  For some more ideas for items that you can sell on Etsy, check out Crafts You Can Make and Sell Online.
