10 Summer Wardrobe Essentials
It certainly goes without saying that summer dresses are going to be one of the most versatile articles of clothing in your collection this summer.
Whether you’re on your way out the door to a summertime coffee date, a business meeting or simply getting dressed for a day in the office, a selection of perfectly fitting sundresses are going to be your most reached for pieces this year. Easily finish your outfit with some heeled sandals, flip flops or even a cute pair of converse.
Being comfortable in the hot weather is a must – so as much as it feels nice to wear heels on a day to day basis, likelihood is that you will soon end up trading them in for something flat and comfy.
Flat doesn’t have to be bland though, and you can still feel classy and dressy without wearing heels, here are a couple of my faves that look perfect with dresses, jean shorts and floaty trousers.
For the days where you do want to look a little more elevated, a pair of comfy yet dressy heels are totally essential. I personally like to opt for wedges or espadrilles in summer as these are the most versatile and the easiest to walk in all day.
Summer hats are seriously in style this year and it’s no wonder why! The perfect staple to keep you cool, hide a bad hair day and add an exciting accessory to what might otherwise be a fairly basic outfit. It’s also important to protect your skin from the harsh sun rays, and there is no better way than with a wide brimmed headpiece.
Protect your skin and eyes from the sun with a stylish pair of sunglasses. Secondly, it’s a great way to go makeup free without feeling washed out. Go wild and pick up several pairs to make sure that you have a pair for every look – aviators and cat eye sunnies are just two of the most popular styles this year.
If you go out and buy just one new thing for your summer wardrobe after reading this post, then make sure it’s the denim shorts.
These can be paired with camis, tshirts, blouses and cardigans, so no matter where you’re going and what time of day it is, you’ll be able to put together the perfect summertime look in your denim cutoffs. Consider getting a couple of washes (black, mid denim, acid wash) so that you can create a wider range of looks.
Many climates get much cooler in the evenings even if the sun is out in full force during the day. So make sure you have a well fitting denim jacket in your wardrobe to throw on over every outfit as the sun goes in.
Even pull off the double denim look if you’re wearing your denim shorts by opting for a jacket and shorts which are different washes.
A pair of lightweight trousers or coluttes are sometimes overlooked as a summertime essential.
Don’t let this one slide, as there will be days where you don’t fancy wearing a dress, and jean shorts aren’t appropriate – such as business meetings, work and dressier summer parties. A lightweight pair of trousers will offer you a comfortable alternative to jeans which doesn’t have you feeling hot, sticky and uncomfortable.
BASIC T SHIRTS
It goes without saying that a range of basic tees are a summer essential that every man, woman and child can’t go without during summer.
Make sure you’re stocked up on the classic colours like black, white and grey, then also choose a couple of brighter colours which compliment your skin tone. I also like to include a couple of options with some sort of pattern or motif, such as a band or university shirt.
Last but not least, a pretty cami won’t go a miss in your summer wardrobe no matter your style or age.
These can be paired with jean shorts, jeans and trousers to put together a flattering, comfortable outfit for any occasion. Similarly with t shirts, I like to make sure i have a selection including black, white and a couple of patterned/floral choices.
