I think we can all agree that life feels very strange at the moment.  If somebody had told us this time last year that most people would spend 2020 quarantined in their homes due to a global virus pandemic, we’d have all laughed and never believed.

But that’s what life is like for most of the population at the moment.  We’re having to adapt to a new normal, and nobody knows how long it will be before life goes back to the way it was – or even if it ever will!

The only thing we can do is follow the advice of the government and try to make the most of the well deserved rest that we needed

Of course, not everyone has the luxury to spend a month at home in self isolation, and I want to take a moment to give thanks and recognition to all the key workers around the world who are putting themselves and their families on the line to support the community.

Supermarket workers, delivery drivers, factory and warehouse staff, police, healthcare and social workers are just a few of the key workers who we really need to thank for continuing to travel to work to support us all through this time – so thank you, your commitment doesn’t go unnoticed.

For those of us that don’t fall into any of those categories, and are in fact staying indoors at the moment, I have put together a list of fun at home date ideas for when you’re stuck inside with your other half.

It’s so important – pandemic or no pandemic – to make time for your partner, and to look for ways to spend time together and connect.

You might be used to going out for dinner every week, or this could be the first time in a while that you’ve spent so much time together – either way, with what’s going on in the world, we must now find ways to have ‘date night’ indoors.

Hopefully, a few months down the line, normal life will resume. However, if in the meantime, you can make the most of being at home and enjoy the extra time you’re getting with your significant other, you’ll really thank yourself once you’re back to work and the routine of normal life.

So we can’t go to restaurants at the moment – but that doesn’t mean that you can’t try new foods… research a brand new cuisine that neither of you have tried before, order the ingredients you need online, and cook a meal together that’s totally different to what you would usually have.

Pinterest is absolutely flooded with delicious recipes and blogs make it so easy to replicate some of the world’s most popular dishes, even for those who have never cooked before.

Turkish, Ethiopian and Polish are just a few examples of some more unusual cuisines which are becoming more globally popular.

A spa day is a great way to relax and take some time out with the one you love.  Just because we can’t travel to a proper spa retreat at the moment, doesn’t mean you can’t bring the spa to your house.

Put on your best bathrobes and slippers, treat one another to a massage and have a romantic candlelit bath together with a nice smelling bath bomb.

Have a picnic in your back garden underneath the stars.  Head outside at sunset and enjoy some sandwiches and wine under the stars.   You can watch the sun go down and the stars come out together and enjoy some peace and quiet and time to talk.

If you’re looking for something fun to do as a double date with your friends, then why not organise a virtual games night.

Video call your closest couple friends over Zoom or Houseparty, and pick some of your favorite games to play.  Some video calling platforms have games built in, so all parties can follow along on screen, or if you prefer you could make up some of your own trivia or drinking games.

Games nights are a great way to bring out some healthy competition and sense of humor amongst people, and it’s a brilliant way to bond with others at times when we can’t see each other face to face.

Nothing is more romantic than sitting outside and watching the sun go down. It’s a time to just sit outside and enjoy nature and take a break from the hectic normality of our daily routines.  If you’d usually do something like this at the local park or by the beach, then just do so in your back garden this time.

Baking cookies always make me feel super nostalgic. It’s a fun thing to do with your boyfriend or girlfriend and the more you practice, the more of an expert baker you will both become! If you have never baked before then start out with a simple recipe – these delicious chocolate chip cookies are really easy and always turn out super tasty!

Find a series of films that you will both enjoy, get some snacks, popcorn and your favourite drinks and have a movie day! I personally love Disney, The Hunger Games Series and Lord of The Rings.   Sometimes there is nothing better than just being lazy on the sofa with the person you love and escaping into a land of fantasy and action.

Spend some time together in the garden cutting the grass, pulling up the weeds, planting some new flower beds and just making the place look beautiful in time for summer.  If you get started early, you’ve got time for the flowers to bloom by the time summer is in full swing.

Gardening is a great form of exercise, and gets you outside in the sunshine away from screens.  It’s a great pastime that’ll have you feeling creative whilst also giving you and your loved one some time to chat and enjoy one another’s company.

Everybody has those little projects around the house that they promise themselves that they’ll get round to someday – well today is someday.

Order a pizza, crack open a bottle of wine and make a date night out of it.  Whether you need to hang some shelves, build furniture or repaint an entire room, just get on with it together and use the time to have a giggle and a chit chat.

The Coronavirus and quarantine period will come to an end at some point – it has to.  So, whilst we’re all waiting for the pandemic to calm down and a vaccine to be discovered, why not plan your post-quarantine trip together?

Make a list of all the places that you both dream of going, and narrow it down together to somewhere you’ll both enjoy.  Once you’ve figured out the destination, you can research what there is to do in that city and put together your own itinerary of exactly how you’re going to spend your time whilst you’re away.

If you’ve got a nice garden and barbecue, then make the most of it and head outside for a cookout.  Make your favourite burgers, sausages, chicken skewers or whatever else you fancy, and enjoy some time in the garden with a few beers – soon, you’ll forget all about the fact that there’s a global health emergency…

Simplify things a little and play some card games in the living room.  Go Fish, Poker, Blackjack and Cheat are a couple of my personal favourites.

Playing cards takes me back to childhood, and it’s also something my boyfriend and I do for hours when we’re on holiday. Playing cards is a great way to bond and illicit a bit of competition between the two of you.

Finally, if you’re both the creative sort, then you might enjoy a bit of time together taking part in some arts and crafts.  Whether you like to paint, build, draw, sew or knit, there is sure to be some creative activity that you can both enjoy together.

You could even create a competition of sorts, or not reveal your project to one another until you’ve both finished.

To Finish Off…

I really hope this post gave some inspiration for ways that you can enjoy some quality time with your loved one during quarantine.

Remember that just because we can’t go out and do the things we usually would, doesn’t mean that it isn’t just as important to give your other half some undivided attention now and then.

Try and look on the bright side of what’s going on: many of us are getting to spend much more time with our families, we’re saving money from staying at home so much, and it’s a great time to reflect on how your life is going currently and maybe consider a change of course.

However you end up occupying yourself, just remember to stay safe, and stay inside.

Let us know what you’ve been up to in order to stay occupied indoors?
