Summer is just around the corner, and that means, it’s probably time to give your home a little tender loving care…
Summertime for many, means garden parties, entertaining guests, and spending most of the weekend out in the backyard enjoying the sunshine.
However, before you can enjoy the fun part, there are probably a few things that you need to tackle around the home to prepare the space and make sure that you can make the most of the hotter months.
If you’re not sure where to start, then here are a few ideas of things that you can do today to get your home prepared for summer.
8 Ways To Get Your Home Summer Ready
CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS
Start by cleaning the windows in your home. With the last six months of rain and snow behind us, your windows are probably looking rather worse for wear.
So pull out your cleaning supplies and give the windows a good polish from the inside and out, ready to have guests over and enjoy the view all summer long.
GET A BBQ
If you don’t already own a home BBQ then now is the time to head out and buy one.
If you’ve already got one collecting cobwebs in the shed, then bring it outside, hose it down and get ready to host some garden parties for your family and friends while you enjoy beers and burgers in the sunshine.
LIGHT UP YOUR YARD
If your back garden is looking a little neglected after months of not being used, then the easiest and fastest way to spruce it up is to add some pretty lighting.
Solar-powered lights are brilliant, as they don’t cost you anything to run and you can hang them up once and they’ll come on automatically every night.
PULLUP THE WEEDS
Another area that’s probably been forgotten about during winter is your outdoor flowerbeds and turf.
Spend a couple of hours out in the garden pulling up weeds, cutting the grass, and even planting some fresh bulbs in the soil. If you do it now, then the flowers will have time to bloom ready for the height of summer.
Gardening is a great way to relax and unwind whilst also being a surprisingly great form of exercise.
Did you know that two hours of gardening can burn up to 650 calories?!
EMPTY YOUR FREEZER
We’re all guilty of buying things at the grocery store and the shoving them in the freezer only to forget about them.
Now is the time to go through your freezer and toss out anything that you’ve not touched in ages, or god forbid that’s out of date. If you don’t want to throw away food, then cook up anything that’s been sitting in your freezer for a while instead of taking a trip to the grocery store this week.
You’ll save yourself a week’s worth of food shopping money, and also clear out space ready to fill your freezer with yummy summer-ready foods like ice lollies, BBQ food and frozen fruits.
PULL OUT YOUR JET WASH
Dig our your jet washer from your shed, and give your patio or decking a once over. It’s amazing how bright and fresh your garden will feel after you’ve given things a spray down. Also, have a look around to see if any moss or mildew has grown in darker damp corners of the garden and give it a clean off.
CLEAR THE ATTIC
Springtime is a great opportunity to head upstairs to the attic and have a clear out. Organize the space and make sure that things are properly stored so they won’t get lost or damaged.
Donate or throw away anything that you no longer need, and you might even come across things you’d forgotten about, which can be put to good use now its summertime.
SWITCH UP SOME DECOR
Finally, give your home a new lease of life by switching around some of the decor. You don’t need to do anything drastic, simple changes such as changing your sofa cushions, hanging some fresh artwork and introducing some fresh decorative items can make the room feel totally transformed.
If you do want to do something a little more dramatic, then you could try painting a feature wall or adding some wallpaper to give any room a complete makeover.
